Once a run down 'bikers pub' equipped with fruit machines and a skittles alley, The Angel has been transformed into a tranquil and elegant gastro pub that has been short-listed for Michelin inspections and has gained an impeccable reputation both within the industry and with it's customers.

The atmosphere of The Angel has changed dramatically from 'spit and sawdust' to one of both lavishness and serenity. The decor has played a huge part in the overall ambience. Owner Andrew Taylor designed all aspects of the interior from the roaring fireplace to the contemporary piece of artwork above one of the dining tables, which Andrew painted himself! Although the standard of both the menu and wine list along with the service is on a par with the most superior restaurants Taylor is insistent that The Angel remains a pub, The intention for the Angel was that it became a place where people could relax, I don't want guests to feel intimidated by formality or that they can't pop in for a glass of wine and a sandwich. I feel that we've achieved that without compromising our standards.

The food at The Angel is a far cry from the 'sliced white' sandwiches and limp salad that you might expect, or be used to, on the commuter stretch of the A4. The menu focuses on using the highest quality British produce in innovative and carefully crafted dishes. Since the costly and ambitious refurbishment, The Angel has become a culinary landmark in the area, contributing to the positive reputation of Thames Valley dining.

Andrew has spent a painstaking year perfecting his masterpiece and although he is now reaping the benefits of the hard work, with rave reviews and thriving custom he is setting his sights on new projects including a Japanese water garden in the neglected land behind the Banqueting room and an 'Old English Style Country Lounge' complete with Chesterfields and candelabra.
